Brigham Young University - Evening Classes

Graduate Student Instructor Information

Payroll Information

Your first payment for teaching will be the second pay period of each semester/term (assuming you are signed up for direct deposit).

*** CHANGE IN POLICY! *** Students who teach an evening class on contract must now fill out an Ecclesiastical Endorsement form through the Evening Classes Office! THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS YOUR STUDENT CLEARANCE FORM! If you have a contract in your hand, you're fine. . . but you might need to fill one out for a future semester/term. They are only good for one year. Please call for information.

ARE YOU STILL A STUDENT? If you are not a BYU student, your honorarium will be increased and FICA (Social Security) tax will be deducted. Please call and let me know your status so your contract can be changed, if necessary. (Undergraduate students teaching evening classes must be hired on timecard through the department for which they are teaching.)

ARE YOU ALREADY WORKING ANOTHER CAMPUS JOB AT BYU? It is against BYU policy for someone to be paid on timecard (Kronos) and on contract simultaneously. If you are currently on timecard in another department and plan on keeping that job, please call me!

HOW MANY TOTAL HOURS MAY YOU WORK? Graduate students may work up to 30 hours per week if all the work is related to their major. International students may not work more than 20 hours per week. If you are already employed elsewhere on campus, the combined hours for all jobs cannot exceed the allotted number of hours. It is the responsibility of the student to keep track of his/her total hours.

IF YOU ARE F-1 STUDENT STATUS, you must also contact the International Office, 1351 WSC.

Please call our payroll specialist at 801-422-2873 if you have any questions.
