Join the BYU men’s volleyball head coach Shawn Patchell and the nationally ranked Cougars for a week of powerful volleyball! The main focus of the camp will be on your improvement. Your training will include intensive tactical analysis and competitive strategy. You will learn offensive and defensive techniques and receive coach feedback. Evening sessions will be devoted to the best in tournament play.

If you are a player eager to improve and refine your fundamental skills, this is the camp for you. You will learn fundamentals, techniques, and strategies from one of the best camp coaching staffs in the country. In addition to the professional instruction received at camp, you’ll learn guidelines to help you throughout your season while training both at home and at school.

Director
With a career record of 46–10, Shawn Patchell is in his second year as head coach and sixth year overall as a member of BYU’s staff. Patchell came to BYU from Laguna Beach High School where he was head coach for both the boy’s and girl’s volleyball teams.

In addition to his BYU coaching responsibilities, Patchell has been selected to be the 2008 Junior National Team Head Coach. The Junior National Team will compete in El Salvador this summer. Patchell also coached the Youth National Team at the FIVB World Championships in Mexico in 2007, the first US team to participate in the Youth World Championships. In 2006 Patchell assisted the Youth National Team to a win over Cuba and a silver medal in the Dominican Republic NORCECA tourny which qualified team USA for the World Championships.

During the summer of 2005, Patchell coached the US World University Games team.

A member of BYU’s first NCAA men’s volleyball team, Patchell was a starter from 1990–93 and recorded a .398 career hitting percentage. In 1992, Patchell’s junior year, he led the nation in hitting percentage at .488 and was honored as All–Academic Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. He was ranked fourth and 10th nationally in hitting and blocking his senior year. Patchell played professionally in Spain for the Euro Cup qualifier and No. 1–ranked Gran Canaria Team in the Canary Islands and also represented the US in the Federation International Volleyball Association Sand Volleyball Circuit in Europe.

Patchell earned his BA in English with a minor in business management from BYU in 1993 and a master’s degree in English Literature from the University of California at Irvine in 2000. He is a part–time member of the BYU English Department and Business School where he teaches literature and composition classes. Shawn and his wife Davis enjoy being outdoors with their four children: Jordan (11), Sage (9) Soren (5) and Kai (1).

Registration Notes

  • A full refund (minus $25 nonrefundable) will be granted to all cancellations requested by 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 21 (one week before camp begins). No refunds will be given after this deadline.
  • Full tuition is due at the time of registration. No deposits will be accepted.
  • Information packets with updated check-in times will be available on our Web site six to eight weeks before camp begins.
