Come experience BYU’s top-flight Golf Elite Camp 2008! Join Coach Bruce Brockbank for five days of exceptional golf at a local golf course situated among the majestic Wasatch Mountains! You will receive instruction in iron play, woods, putting, short game, sand shots, mental attitude, tournament play, and conditioning training. Your training will include the same fundamentals and techniques as those taught to the great golfers who have played at BYU—Johnny Miller, Bobby Clampett, Keith Clearwater, Mike Reid, Rick Fehr, and Pat McGowan.
You will improve your form through videotaping and feedback throughout the week. For added practice on the golf course, you will experience 36 holes of championship golf, including the highly competitive closing tournament. You will also receive a free custom BYU PING golf bag as a tee prize for attending the 2008 camp. Share the excitement at Brigham Young University Golf Elite Camp!
The camp has limited enrollment, so register early. It is recommended that participants have a handicap of 12 or better to attend this camp. If your handicap is 13 to 20, you might consider the Intermediate Golf Camp.
Director
In his 15th year at the helm of BYU’s men’s golf program, Bruce Brockbank Jr. continues the tradition of excellence that the Cougar golf program has been known for throughout the years.
A native of Provo, Brockbank joined the BYU golf team in 1983 after a stellar prep and amateur career included a second-place finish in the Utah State Amateur. Following an LDS mission to South Carolina, Brockbank returned to the Cougar squad in 1985 and was named First Team All-WAC twice as well as earning Third Team All-America and Academic All-America honors in 1988, his senior season. In that final year of play for the Cougars, he also won medalist honors at the prestigious Western Collegiate Invitational.
He won the Utah State Amateur title in 1987 between his junior and senior years at BYU and again in 1988 after completing his eligibility. He was named Utah Amateur Golfer of the Year in 1983 and again in 1988. A member of the PGA of America, Brockbank turned pro in 1989 and competed throughout the Utah area in section events.
Before being tabbed as the head coach in April 1992, Brockbank served as an assistant coach for four years under the tutelage of BYU Hall of Fame coach Karl Tucker.
In his short time at the helm of the Cougar squad, he has coached 17 All-Americans, including 2007 First-Team All-American Daniel Summerhays and four-time All-American Andy Miller. He also coached honorable mention All-Americans Manuel Merizalde (2001), Jose Garrido (1999), Billy Harvey (1999), Todd Pence (1995), and Eric Rustand (1994). As a Cougar assistant in 1992, he also helped coach second team All-American and current Masters Champion Mike Weir.
