Director
Coach Keith Russell is quickly asserting himself as a prominent coach in the diving community.
As a rookie coach in 1993, he helped Vanessa Thelin and Valerie Blau earn All-American status at the NCAA Championships. He followed that success by coaching Thelin to the 1994 NCAA title on the one-meter springboard.
The success has paid off as Russell has won the MWC Diving Coach of the Year award the last three seasons. It marked the fifth time Russell has been honored as the conference’s best diving coach, and it came for the fifth consecutive season. Russell has coached Devan Porter, Justin Wilcock, and his own son, Aaron, to conference titles. He also guided Rachelle Kunkel to two conference titles and a sixth-place national finish on the 1M board and a first-place finish at the U.S. Diving Nationals on the 1M board two years ago. He was named diving coach for the 1999 U.S. squad at the World Student University Games as well.
A native of Mesa, Arizona, Russell won the 1968 NCAA three-meter diving championships while attending Arizona State University. He was later selected for the 1968 U.S. Olympic Games Diving Team.
